  • Bloat in dogs can be serious, and if you believe your dog may be suffering from bloat, you should take your dog to the veterinarian as soon as you can. As a future preventative against bloat, good dog gut health can make a difference. When your dog doesn’t digest food as he should, that undigested food sits in his intestines. Bacteria that feed on that undigested food produce gas, and that gas can cause abdominal bloating. While Bernie’s is not a treatment for dog bloat, it can help your dog digest food better and prevent that gas from forming in the first place..
  • Some foods are hard for dogs to digest and can lead to bloat as well as digestive pain. Quality fiber helps your dog digest his food, and that helps move your dog’s food through the digestive system more efficiently. The perfect combination of Miscanthus grass, pumpkin and flaxseed in Bernie’s gives your dog the fiber they need to balance their gut and prevent excess gas from occurring.
  • Bernie’s Perfect Poop also combines prebiotics and probiotics to balance your dog’s gut microbiome. If your dog’s gut is imbalanced, harmful bacteria take over and produce excess gas. Bernie’s prebiotics and probiotics encourage efficient food digestion and optimal dog gut health to reduce excess gas from occurring.
  • Every cell of your dog’s body needs nutrients. The combination of enzymes in Bernie’s breaks your dog’s food down. There’s no more issue with undigested food producing gas, and bloat may be reduced.
  • Bernie’s Perfect Poop is a 4-in-1 combination of fiber, prebiotics, probiotics, and enzymes. Good dog gut health is the key to a happier, healthier life for your dog. Many times, bloat stems from too much gas in your dog’s gut and abdomen. Bernie’s helps balance the digestive tract and provide a better gut microbiome, and this may prevent bloat in your dog.

It is still a little early for an perfect review, because we have just started, but, she does like the stuff. Lucy ( miniature dachshund ) is very picky eater. She does not seem to be as bloated as before we started. I believe she feels better also. So far we are very pleased. – Vivian.

My little Bear loves eating his breakfast now because of Bernie’s Perfect Poop! He seems to have more energy and we are trying to stop feeding him from our plates unless it is something healthy for him such as a little bit of blueberries, carrots, spinach, brown rice or bananas and apples. He seems to have more energy and I am noticing that his belly bloat has gone down tremendously! Bernie’s Perfect Poop is a little on the pricey side for me but to be fair it does last a while if given only once a day. –  Christie C.

What is dog bloat?

Bloat in dogs is a scary condition. Your dog may become lethargic pretty quickly, and they may or may not appear to be in obvious pain. General stomach distension (full belly) alone is often called ‘simple bloat’ or gastric dilation. With bloat, or GD, your dog’s stomach fills with excess gas. The pent-up air puts pressure on internal organs that surround the stomach, as well as the diaphragm and large veins in their abdomen. This can make it difficult for them to breathe and can prevent blood from flowing properly.

A more severe condition, known as gastric dilation and volvulus (GDV), can be fatal if not treated. With GDV, the stomach fills with gas, and like a balloon, can rotate and twist once its filled. This can be anywhere from 180 degrees to a full 360-degree twist, and if that’s the case? Your dog’s stomach is closed off at both ends. There is no way for built-up gas or air to get out of your dog’s stomach, which can be very serious. Additionally, since the blood supply isn’t consistent, your dog’s stomach and other organs will deteriorate pretty rapidly and could lead to death.

If you believe your dog has bloat, it’s important that you get your dog to the vet as soon as you can.

The symptoms of dog bloat include:

  • Abdomen distension
  • Lethargy
  • Abdominal pain
  • Retching (attempted vomit with no success)
  • Panting
  • Pacing
  • Excessive drooling
  • Pale gums

Causes of dog bloat

There are many theories behind the causes of bloat in dogs, with excess gas, food or liquid obviously being the main culprits. Researchers also believe that there may be a genetic predisposition to bloat in middle-to-larger-sized dogs. There’s also research that supports the idea that a dog’s gut health can come into play. Sometimes bloat can be as simple as eating or drinking too quickly, or eating from a raised bowl. Often times, though, when your dog isn’t digesting food appropriately, he’s creating excess gas in his digestive system, and that can generate bloat conditions. Bernie’s does not treat bloat, but may help prevent this serious condition from occurring in the first place.

Warning: If your dog has bloat

Simple bloat, or gastric dilation (GD), is a sign that your dog’s digestive system is in trouble. Bloat can turn to GDV very quickly and without notice. If you notice any of the above symptoms, you’ll want to check with your dog’s veterinarian as soon as possible to ensure his stomach isn’t twisted. Making sure your dog’s digestive system is working as best it can and ensuring he has good dog gut health is the best way to prevent any type of bloat situations.

More information about bloat in dog

Good dog gut health is pivotal to overall health in your dog. The bottom line with bloat is that your dog has excess gas trapped in his stomach for some reason. While Bernie’s does not treat bloat, it does help prevent excess gas in your dog by breaking the food you give your dog down more. This means your dog has better nutrient absorption, better gut health and less gas production because of an overabundance of harmful gut bacteria. Dogs who have balanced guts also are less at risk for other diseases or illnesses that may cause later problems.

Fiber may help with dog bloat

Fiber helps battle dog bloat because it aids your dog’s digestive system and keeps everything moving properly through the system. When your dog has the right fiber intake, their balanced microbiomes don’t produce excess gas, plain and simple. The right combination of insoluble and soluble fiber helps prevent excess gas buildup, but it also keeps your dog’s gut balanced so bad bacteria die off and quickly move through your dog’s digestive system.

Prebiotics and probiotics may help with excess gas and bloat

Prebiotics and probiotics are key supplements to helping your dog’s gut health be at its best. Prebiotics and probiotics balance out your dog’s digestive tract bacteria and microbiome. This means your dog is able to produce firmer, less stinky poop. The prebiotic in Bernie’s is Inulin, which acts as a fertilizer to feed the good bacteria in your dog’s lower digestive tract. Working with the power of fiber reducing your dog’s gut pH level, the Inulin helps offer good bacteria nutrition they need to thrive. When they thrive and keep your dog’s gut healthy and balanced, you may see the end of diarrhea.

Probiotics are the good bacteria in your dog’s gut. When you add good bacteria through supplementation, you’re helping your dog achieve good dog gut health by getting rid of the bad bacteria that causes colitis, leaky gut and diarrhea. With proper nutrition from probiotics, the good bacteria probiotics also flourish and may help keep your dog’s gut able to fight off virus, allergens, inflammation and poor nutrient absorption. , When we add good bacteria with Bernie’s, we help achieve good dog gut health, which lends itself to helping prevent diarrhea.

Enzymes may help your dog with the runs

Enzymes in Bernie’s Perfect Poop will help your dog’s digestive tract break food down better. The number one reason bad bacteria that produce excess gas thrive is because they feed off the undigested food in your dog’s intestines. Your dog’s digestive system is detailed and involves several organs. The healthier that system, the better your dog’s digestion will be. This means less food goes undigested, and less gas is produced because bad bacteria don’t have anything to eat.
